He was the very first super-villain that Spider-squid faced when he was still a Human. A master illusionist, he is also responsible for Parker’s transformation into an inkling. Meet Mysterio.

A passionate illusionist
A great fan of illusions since childhood, Mysterio, also known as Quentin Beck, is a practitioner of illusions. Over the years, his training has made him a true expert in his craft, and he has put on a number of shows that have blown everyone away. However, after numerous criticisms accusing him of cheating and making false illusions, he stopped his career altogether and turned to banditry to earn even more money with his talents.
His encounter with Spider-squid (Spôdeurman at the time)
After learning that an illusionist was using his talents to dupe the population in order to steal from them. Spôdeurman intervenes and confronts Mysterio in a very quick fight, but the illusionist fails to defeat the spider and is arrested by the police.
Planned revenge
After being put in prison, Mysterio sought revenge on Spôdeurman. He decided to trick a powerful entity called Herobrine (a very popular Minecraft monster) into believing that Spôdeurman was responsible for the destruction of his village. This generated a deep hatred for Spôdeurman on the part of Herobrine, who went off to fight him for some time. The Herobrine arc begins.

Sonic, Yuko, Spôdeurman, the Villager and Monika are the main characters in the Herobrine arc.
A life-changing transformation
After defeating Herobrine, Spôdeurman learns that Mysterio was behind it all. The two hadn’t seen each other for 2 years. Mysterio points out that he was the first supervillain Spôdeurman ever faced and that he’s going to get revenge for everything he did to him. He then plans a final illusion trick to destroy Spôdeurman once and for all. Without warning, a strong magical charge hits Spôdeurman and transforms him into an inkling, depriving him of his Human life and his usual strength, as well as all his other techniques, so he has to start all over again. From that moment on, Mysterio disappeared for a while.

Revenge match
When a bank is being robbed, Spider-Squid, in his new guise, intervenes and discovers that the thief is none other than Mysterio. The illusionist asks Parker if he likes his new life as an inkling and makes fun of his appearance, which Parker doesn’t seem to mind, promising to send him back to prison. The confrontation is intense, Mysterio uses his illusions to injure Spider-squid but receives a few blows. Mysterio uses a special attack that does a lot of damage to the bank and allows him to escape. Spider-squid loses.

In the “friends” episode takes place one day after the attack on the bank. Parker is depressed about losing but Yuko, Sonic and the Villager comfort him.
Bad tricks
In the episode entitled “Secret” we learn that Yuko has found a strange book and that it is possessed by something still mysterious. We learn much later that it was Mysterio’s trick to corrupt Yuko’s mind. In the episode “Betrayal” Yuko reveals that she has been Mysterio’s servant since the book incident and that she gives him all the heroes’ private information. Mysterio will appear behind Yuko announcing himself as the final boss of this story.

An explosive finale
After these revelations, Yuko finds herself completely paralysed, unable to move or even speak. Saya concludes that if she is to get better, Mysterio must be defeated. Kraven tries to fight, but Mysterio’s powers are too great and he ends up temporarily turning Kraven into a fish. Seeing his friends in such a situation upsets Parker, who pounces on Mysterio. The fight is pretty messy, with both of them seemingly desperate to win. Parker is pushed back by Mysterio’s force and Mysterio prepares to cast an illusion on our group of heroes, but surprise, Parker activates his ‘SMILE’ transformation, an unknown transformation that Parker seems to be able to activate in critical situations, a transformation that multiplies his powers. Parker gains the upper hand in the fight and, in a last ditch effort and in a fit of madness, Mysterio decides to trigger an explosion on himself and try to take Parker to his death with him. He fails and this marks the end of Mysterio and his arc.

The illusion is over
After this intense battle, our group of heroes meet up a little further on to wrap up everything that has happened. Yuko apologises for what has happened to her, but her friends don’t hold it against her and understand that she has been duped by Mysterio. Quentin Beck was a great illusionist who had a promising career but, consumed by his ego and his talent, he turned to vengeance and crime, which got the better of him. He is the only supervillain to have died in the Spideurverse.
But it’s not all over…
